Battambang Cambodia Residence Inn
There are many reasons to visit this fascinating area of northwest Cambodia, which is often overlooked by those who drive to the beach destinations preferred by the backpackers. For many people the main reason for visiting Battambang is the river, but there are many quiet places to stop off.
If you don't mind paying a little more, you can travel from Phnom Penh, Siem Reap or Battambang with a private driver for the day, or you can travel by bus or rent a private car for a day. For a fun day trip to Koh Ker, which is 2.5 hours outside the city, you can reach Siem in less than an hour and a half from the capital of Cambodia in a full day.
N as nearby Buddhist temple: This host family offers visitors a taste of local customs and cuisine. On weekdays, however, the temple will probably have far fewer tourists than in Siem Reap. The most visited ruins in the region are the ancient temples of Phnom Penh, a huge archaeological site in the jungle. Due to its proximity to the main thoroughfare of the city, it is best seen in the summer months.
For those who want to stay longer and explore the island, there are other islands nearby, including Koh Rong Samloem, which has become a backpacker's paradise (there is even a full moon party). Visit the floating village of Phnom Penh, a popular tourist attraction, or stay overnight at the Tourism Training Center in Kratie, which trains disadvantaged youth. Try the Battamang Cambodia Residence Inn (doubles from $94) or Kritie Hotel (doubles from $10).
Asia - based Backyard Travel has its land section on offer, which takes you on an experience that starts from Siem Reap and costs $469pp (all inclusive). Other stops include Phnom Penh, Kratie and the capital Battamang, as well as a visit to the temples. See some of the most important temples in the area, including Wat Ek, Phnom Wat and Kor, as well as other temples in the city, such as the Royal Palace, the National Museum of Cambodia and Wat Khmer.
The Banh Mi Camp Fire is a 20-day trip from Bangkok to Hanoi that includes a two-day stay in Battamang and a three-day trip to Phnom Penh. A 17-day stay in Bangkok, including two nights in the city and three days in Phnang, as well as a visit to Kratie and the capital, is essential for Vietnam and Cambodia.
Admire the colonial architecture and stroll along the water, an abandoned French hill station, a cave - in temples - and a small village with its own history.
No matter where you stay, make sure you rent a bike or scooter - Kep is quite common, but it is not far from where you live. After lunch, grab a tuk-tuku and drive through the city to explore Phnom Sampeu.
Unfortunately, Battambang is not operated by the same company that takes you from Bangkok to Siem Reap. If you want to travel from Siem Reap to Batt Ambang, there are two Mekong Express buses daily, departing from 8 am to 2 pm. I recently took the Mekongs Express bus from Phnom Sampeu to Phnom Sampesu and back and then back to Bangkok.
If you want to continue to Vietnam, you have to take the Mekong Express bus from Phnom Sampeu to Phonm Penh and from there back to Battambang. Most travellers head to the other side of the country, also on Makong, which is located in the Cambodian-Vietnamese border town of Bien Hoa.
From Sihanoukville, you need to take a bus from Phnom Penh to Siem Reap and back. It can cost between $5 and $6 to meet your personal guide and driver today and return to Ph nom Penh.
If you want to stay longer in Cambodia, you can pay an additional $5 for a 12-month stay, which can be renewed or renewed annually. If you want to stay less than 30 days, you will pay only $30 for the first 12 months of your stay and $20 for each additional month.
One of the best ways to find cheap deals for hostels and hotels in Cambodia is Hotels.com to compare rates with Hostelworld and combine both. I always return to the cheapest prices for pensions and hotels, but if you want to stay somewhere else than a hostel, you can use Booking.
Next to Sam Puoy Mountain, there are some of the most famous temples in Cambodia, such as Angkor Wat, Phnom Penh and Phuket. I started following the "Angk- or Wat-Holiday-Idea," which focuses on exploring the surroundings, but I prefer to travel to Laos, Vietnam and northern Thailand as well.
